"An Air-conditioner Price Battle"

[参考范文]
With the rapid improvement in the standard of living of the Chinese people in recent years, air-conditioners have joined the army of household electrical appliances as items of great demand. The output of air-conditioners has far exceeded the market demand, as manufacturers have competed for sales in this profitable market. As a result, fierce competition has driven them to avoid going bankrupt, resorting to all sorts of measures to stay ahead of other rivals.
These measures include, among many others, aggressive marketing strategies, offering a free gift with every purchase and most important of all, lowering prices. Where supply out-strips demand in a free-market economy, price battles have become inevitable and widespread as the last resort to survive stiff competitions. Nevertheless, it is unlikely that there will be a repeat of the recent price wars in the air-conditioner market in the years to come.
There are several reasons to justify this prediction on the issue. The first is that since the earlier round of price-cut- ting eliminated the less-efficient manufacturers, fewer suppliers companies have survived the competition. The second is that the government has taken drastic counter measures to regulate the chaotic market price battles brought. And the third is that with China entering the WTO, manufacturers will have to offer more attractive and inexpensive products.
