Five years ago, when I taught art at a school in Seattle, I used Tinkertoys as a test at the beginning of a term to find out something about my students. I put a small set of Tinkertoys in front of each student, and said:”Make something out of the Tinkertoys. You have 45 minutes today - and 45minutes each day for the rest of the week.”
A few students hesitated to start. They waited to see the rest of the class would do. Several others checked the instructions and made something according to one of the model plans provided. Another group built something out of their own imaginations.
Once I had a boy who worked experimentally with Tinkertoys in his free time. His constructions filled a shelf in the art classroom and a good part of his bedroom at home. I was delighted at the presence of such a student. Here was an exceptionally creative mind at work. His presence meant that I had an unexpected teaching assistant in class whose creativity would infect(感染) other students.
Encouraging this kind of thinking has a downside. I ran the risk of losing those students who had a different style of thinking. Without fail one would declare, ” But I’m just not creative.”
“Do you dream at night when you’re asleep?”
“Oh, sure.”
“So tell me one of your most interesting dreams.” The student would tell something wildly imaginative. Flying in the sky or in a time machine or growing three heads. “That’s pretty creative. Who does that for you?”
“Nobody. I do it.”
“Really-at night, when you’re asleep?”
“Sure.”
“Try doing it in the daytime, in class, okay?”

Why did the teacher ask the students to talk about their dreams?()

A:To help them to see their creativity. B:To find out about their sleeping habits. C:To help them to improve their memory. D:To find out about their ways of thinking.

Free Statins With Fast Food Could Neutralize Heart Risk

? ?Fast food outlets could provide statin drugs free of ?(51) ? so that customers can ?(52) ? the heart disease dangers of fatty food, researchers at Imperial College London suggest in a new study.
? ?Statins reduce the ?(53) ? of unhealthy "LDL" cholesterol in the blood. A wealth of trial data has proven them to be highly effective at lowering a person’s heart attack risk.
? ?In a paper published in the American Journal of Cardiology, Dr Darrel Francis and colleagues calculate ?(54) ? the reduction in heart attack risk offered by a statin is ?(55) ? to offset the increase in heart attack risk ?(56) ? eating a cheeseburger and drinking a milkshake.
? ?Dr Francis, from the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London, ?(57) ?
? ?is the senior author of the study, said: "Statins don’t ?(58) ? all of the unhealthy effects of cheeseburgers and French fries. It’s ?(59) ? to avoid fatty food altogether. But we’ve worked out that in terms of your possobility of having a heart attack, taking a statin can reduce your risk to more or less the same degree as a fast food meal increases it. "
? ?"It’s ?(60) ? that people are free to take as many unhealthy condiments in fast food outlets as they like, but statins, which are beneficial ?(61) ? heart health, have to be prescribed. It makes sense to make risk-reducing statins available just ?(62) ? the unhealthy condiments that are ?(63) ? free of charge. It would cost less than pence per ?(64) ? —not much different to a sachet of sugar, "Dr Francis said.
? ?When people engage in risky behaviours like driving or smoking, they’re encouraged to ?(65) ? measures that lower their risk, like wearing a seatbelt or choosing cigarettes with filters. Taking a statin is a rational way of lowering some of the risks of eating a fatty meal.

Problems that Manufacturers Face Manufacturers who wish to export their goods to other countries 【51】 many practical problems. Working Hard or Hardly Working?

? ?According to a recent survey, employees in many companies today work longer hours than employees did in 1979. They also take shorter vacations. It seems that Americans are working harder today than ever before. Or are they? A management consultant, Bill Meyer, decided to find out. For three days, he observed an investment banker hard at work. Meyer wrote down everything the banker did during his long workday, the banker worked 80 hours a week. At the end of the three-day period, Meyer reviewed the banker’s activities with him. What did they find out? They discovered that the man spent 80 percent of his time doing busy work. For example, he attended unnecessary meetings, made unnecessary telephone calls, and spent time packing and unpacking his two big briefcases.
? ?Apparently, many people believe that the more time a person spends at work, the more she or he accomplishes. However, the connection between time and productivity is not always positive. In fact, many studies indicate that after a certain point, anyone’s productivity and creativity begin to decrease. FUrthermore, it is not always easy for individuals to realize that their performance is falling off.
? ?Part of the problem is understandable. When employers evaluate employees, they often consider the amount of time on the job in addition to job performance. Employees know this. Consequently, they work longer hours and take less vacation time than they did nine years ago. Although many working people can do their job effectively during a regular 40-hour work week, they feel they have to spend more time on the job after normal working hours so that the people who can promote them see them.
? ?A group of head-hunters were asked their opinion about a situation. They had a choice of two candidates for an executive position with an important company. The candidates had comparable qualifications for the job. One could do the job well in a 40-hour work week. The other would do the same job in an 80-hour week just as well. According to a head-hunting expert, the 80-hour-a-week candidate would get the job. The time this candidate spends on the job may encourage other employees to spend more time at work, too. Employers believe that if the employees stay at work later, they may actually do more work.
? ?People do not work long hours only for more money. In such fields as advertising, show business, and journalism, the glamour and publicity are worth more than any monetary benefit. Thus the solution is to find a company. that encourages people to do both.

What was the purpose of Bill Meyer’s investigation?

A:To find out if the Americans are hardly working nowadays. B:To find out if the Americans are working harder today than ever before. C:To find out what the banker does within three days. D:To find out if the banker was pretending to do busy work.
